Michigan basketball has a storied history and as it gets ready for its eighth Final Four, here is a look at the five best Final Four teams in Wolverines history.

After an ugly win over Florida State last Saturday, the Michigan basketball team earned a trip to its eighth Final Four. The Wolverines have played in six National Championship games and won the NCAA title once.

While Michigan basketball has an impressive record in the National Semifinals, going 6-1, with six consecutive wins (1965, 1976, 1989, 1992, 1993, 2013), the Wolverines have been unable to deliver in the final game.

Of course, no Michigan fans need reminding of that. The game in 2013 was painful, because of the big first-half lead. But it hurts no less than the 1993 championship game with the infamous Chris Webber timeout-turned technical foul. You know, the play that has given every diehard Michigan fan nightmares for the past 25 years.

Michigan has had a lot of great players and some really good chances at winning it all. It just hasn’t happened, This year, the Final Four feels wide open and if UM can play up to its potential, anything is possible.

But, as an exercise in fun, I’ve decided to rank the top five Michigan basketball teams that have made the Final Four. Certainly, there will be disagreements. All I can do is lay out my case.

It probably would be a little easier to do this list after the Final Four, so that will be taken into consideration and if it comes down to it, it will be amended if needed.
