Michigan Football: 5 things to watch in spring practice
With a new coach and quarterback, will the offense look different at all?
While the Wolverines have lots of concerns after the way last season ended, the biggest has to be the ineptitude of the offense. The defense has been great for each of Jim Harbaugh’s three seasons. The offense, on the other hand, has been atrocious.
After finishing outside the FBS top 100 in both yards and points last season, Michigan football has made some changes. The team got rid of former offensive coordinator Tim Drevno and brought in Jim McElwain and Ed Warinner to coach receivers and the offensive line.
Those guys have more of a background in spread principles, a system that seems like a good fit for Patterson. Harbaugh also said he was impressed by the Eagles use of the run-pass option. That’s something else UM could utilize with Patterson.
The fact is, Michigan has playmakers on offense, the coaching staff just has to find a way to use them. Spring practice might give us an idea of how that might look in 2018.
