Michigan Football: 5 things to watch in spring practice
Both offensive tackle jobs appear to be wide open
The quarterback play has been a problem for Michigan football, there is no question about that. But the struggles of the offensive line have been a issue too and with no clear starter at either tackle spot, there are some big question marks.
The Wolverines pushed hard for graduate transfer Calvin Anderson, who could have stepped in right away at left tackle. Unfortunately, he chose Texas, leaving Michigan to consider other options.
Grant Newsome is hoping to come back this spring, but more likely it happens in the fall, if at all. He might be the best option at left tackle, but he has to get healthy. At right tackle Nolan Ulizio, Jon Runyan Jr. and Juwann Bushell-Beatty are all contenders. Each started games last season.
Chuck Filiaga and James Hudson are two prime candidates on the left side, especially if Newsome is still sidelined. The interior positions look good with Cesar Ruiz, Ben Bredeson and Michael Owenu, but how things develop on the edge is a much bigger concern.
