In bracketology by ESPN and CBS, Michigan basketball is projected as a No. 3 seed and both brackets have the Wolverines playing in Dallas.

Championship week is just about over in college hoops and by Sunday afternoon, we will officially know where Michigan basketball will play during the NCAA Tournament and what the Wolverines seed will be.

It’s been almost a week since Michigan basketball won the Big Ten Championship in the Big Apple. But since then, not a ton has changed, at least not with seeding projections in bracketology.

However, on Saturday morning, there was some movement in the CBS projection. For some reason, Jerry Palm continued to list Michigan as a four seed, while having Michigan State as a two seed.

For a lot of reasons, this didn’t make sense. The Spartans have a better overall and record and won the Big Ten regular season title, but also lack quality wins. Michigan also beat MSU by double digits, on the road and on a neutral floor. Their resumes aren’t even close and there is no way the Spartans should be seeded ahead.

Well, that finally changed in this projection. Both the Wolverines and Spartans are three seeds. Joe Lunardi of ESPN also dropped Michigan State to a three seed and neither the Spartans or Wolverines are projected to play in Detroit.

Both CBS and ESPN have the Wolverines playing in Dallas. Each bracket also has Michigan State in Wichita. Purdue, which is a two seed in the brackets, looks headed to Detroit, at least if ESPN and CBS turn out to be right. Last year, Lunardi (ESPN) correctly predicted 67 of the 68 teams in the field.

Michigan’s resume did take a small hit this week, as Penn State fell out of the top 75 in the RPI, moving them from a quadrant 1 win to quadrant 2. But still, UM has six quadrant 1 victories.

The Wolverines also have six top-50 wins and four wins over the top 20, with three of the four coming on the road or on a neutral floor. They have 10 top-100 wins and not a single loss outside of the top 100.

Add in the fact that UM is on a nine-game win streak and it deserves a good seed. It has done everything the committee could want it to do. It may not be enough for a two seed, but it’s close.

Both brackets have North Carolina as the two seed. The same Tar Heels that drubbed Michigan basketball earlier in the season. Xavier is the one seed. Tomorrow, we find out the bracket for real.
