Michigan Basketball: Duncan Robinson makes the Wolverines dangerous
After losing his spot in the starting lineup, Duncan Robinson hasn’t complained and in the last couple of games, he has found his 3-point shot.
The story of Duncan Robinson’s road to playing for Michigan basketball is kind of crazy. The former Division 3 player, who transferred to the Wolverines and started playing as a sophomore has always kind of had that feel-good story.
Robinson was a kid that wasn’t heavily recruited. But there was no doubt he could shoot the basketball and over the past three seasons, he has made head coach John Beilein look pretty smart. And the Michigan baksetball team has been better for having him.
Robinson has started off and on during his career, but this season he was starting and playing as much as he ever has, until he was benched for freshman Isaiah Livers. Really, it wasn’t all Robinson’s fault. He was out of position defensively and the other forward spot was already occupied by Charles Matthews.
However, even on the bench, Robsinson still plays quite a bit. He’s still a key part of the game for the Wolverines and last night against Iowa, he showed why. In fact, he’s done it the past two games.
The bottom line is that when Michigan is making its 3-pointers, its a tough team to beat. So far this season, the Wolverines are 10-3 when they make 10 or more triples. When they are hitting from deep, they legitimately can play with any team in America.

Michigan has alreay beaten Michigan State and nearly Purdue twice. And if it’s going to be able to beat teams like that in the Big Ten Tournament and more importantly, in the NCAA Tournament, Robinson needs to keep knocking down shots.
Last night, against Iowa, he was an incredible 6-for-8 from beyond the arc. He scored 18 points on all 3-point makes. And he did that in just 26 minutes. That came on the heels of a 4-of-6 shooting mark against Wisconsin. He scored 16 points in that game, another double-digit win for Michigan.
In the last two games, Robinson has connected on 10 of 15 3-point shots. It’s also the first time in a while he has made more than one trey in consecutive games. Before doing it in back-to-back games against Iowa and Wisconsin, Robinson had only made more than one 3-pointer in a game twice in his last 11 games.
