Michigan football didn’t bring home a class filled with blockbuster recruits, but it’s still a solid group. Here are three takeaways from 2018 recruiting.

There is no doubt that National Signing Day was a tough day for Michigan football. The Wolverines had one top-100 recruit still in their 2018 recruiting class coming into the day. However, the player, Otis Reese, ended up signing with Georgia.

It shouldn’t have been a huge surprise. After all, Reese is from Georgia and the Bulldogs just had an incredible season. Michigan football, on the other hand, went 8-5 and failed to even contend in the Big Ten East.

Of course, once the Reese news came out, Michigan football fans went a little crazy. And that’s to be expected. Losing your top recruit, who was committed for nearly two years, is not a good look. The Wolverines also whiffed on their other high-profile targets, leaving them with three letters of intent from a trio of 3-star players Wednesday.

Yet, the loss of one player shouldn’t define the class. Even though it dropped the Wolverines to No. 21 overall in the 247 sports composite rankings, there is still a lot to like about the group Michigan signed.

The Wolverines did a good job of addressing both the offensive and defensive lines, while adding some nice players on defense. The secondary in particular should get a nice boost. And with some sleepers, like 3-star athlete Michael Barrett, who signed on NSD, it could turn out better than expected.

The sky isn’t falling or anything and so here is a look at three important takeaways from the Wolverines 2018 recruiting class.
