Michigan football has plenty of rivals, but there are none quite like Notre Dame. Here are three reasons to be excited about the 2018 game to open the season.

It’s been no secret that Michigan football and Notre Dame were set to renew their historic rivalry starting in 2018, but Thursday, we found out more details on the upcoming matchup.

It was announced by multiple parties, including the Michigan football program, that the Wolverines and Fighting Irish would open the 2018 season under the lights.

Of course, Michigan fans aren’t the biggest fans of night games. Not after the Wolverines lost to Michigan State and Penn State in primetime. However, after those two games and a third against Minnesota, which was televised on FOX, got huge ratings, the move hardly comes as a surprise.

Michigan vs Notre Dame is a sexy matchup. The two programs have won more games than any other teams in the history of college football and when they meet, it’s must-see TV.

That will be no different when the Wolverines and Irish meet on NBC next fall. Notre Dame posted a 9-3 record this season, which has earned them a trip to the Citrus Bowl against LSU. Likewise, Michigan football is always playing on New Year’s Day, in the Outback Bowl.

The Wolverines, who went 8-4 during the regular season, will play South Carolina. While New Year’s Day will give us one last look at both teams this season, here are three reasons to be excited about the rivalry being renewed in 2018.
