Defense is as good as any in the Big Ten

Michigan’s defense may have dominated Purdue, but after what the Boilermakers had done so far this season, that didn’t seem like an easy task. However, for the Wolverines, it was just another day at the office.

Purdue finished the game with just 189 yards of total offense. It managed a touchdown drive of 75 yards and another scoring drive of just 16, which ended in a field goal. That was it.

Michigan was so dominant that Purdue ended the game with just eight first downs and on third down, the Boilermakers were 0-for-12. The run defense was also incredible, limiting the Boilers to 1.5 yards per carry and just 30 yards.

Some may scoff at the result, but Purdue was averaging 35 points a game coming in and a pass offense that was averaging just under 300 yards passing. Saturday, Purdue completed just 13-of-30 passes and averaged 5.3 an attempt.

In four games, Michigan’s defense has proven incredibly stringy and it’s safe to say, this unit is as good as any in the Big Ten.
