The Poise Factor

This AFA team has a reputation, like many of the service academies. They are a veteran crew and they are very disciplined. On military appreciation day, at the Big House, Michigan football’s young and talented players could maybe learn a thing or two from players with those traits.

If UM learned some of that in practice this past week then hopefully it will show in the final score. If they don’t learn the majority of those lessons til game time – well, better late than never.

There are a lot of upper-classmen on this AFA team in the two deep on offense and defense. Surely they don’t have the talent Michigan does. But, these young men are playing college ball just as a sideline before going off to serve their country, as USAF officers, after getting their Bachelor’s degrees. Well, their priorities are just a bit different than many college football players, especially those who play on the two deep for teams like Michigan football who have a real shot at playing “in the league”, the NFL, some day.

Hopefully UM’s players learn a bit about poise and duty as they prepare for the AFA team this week and compete against them on Saturday. These are good character traits to have. Our guys do have good character and that character will serve them well in their quest for national championships, in the NFL, and in whatever endeavors they find themselves in, after leaving the football program of the University of Michigan.

And preparing for and competing with teams like this are a big part of building the poise and the character that will serve them well in football and beyond. Off we go into the wild blue yonder. Go Blue!
