Projected starter: Charles Matthews

The 6-6 guard went to Kentucky with dreams of a one-and-done season after being the No. 59 player in the 2015 recruiting class. Yet things didn’t quite work out for Matthews, who transferred to Michigan basketball and sat out last season.

in 36 games for Kentucky, he averaged around two points and two rebounds per game. However, he has impressed both teammates and coaches on the practice squad this season and has drawn comparisons to Tim Hardaway Jr. and Glen Robinson III.

Matthews may not be the shooter that Zak Irvin is, but he will need to try and fill his scoring role. Irvin was a slasher that could shoot from deep and if Michigan basketball is going to be a tournament team in 2017, Matthews will have to fill that role admirably.

Duncan Robinson was another candidate to start, but he will ultimately be considered for another position.

Isaiah Livers, a 6-8 freshman could see time on the perimeter as well, along with Watson, who will probably backup multiple spots as wing positions are interchangeable for the most part at UM.
