Michigan Football vs. LSU in Citrus Bowl is Intriguing
Michigan football is reportedly in the mix for the Citrus Bowl, and a possible opponent would be LSU. What an intriguing matchup that would be.
We’re going to go through the next month with a very sour taste in our mouths after Michigan dropped its fourth consecutive game to Ohio State to close out the regular season.
The good thing though is that this time around is there’s a bowl game to look forward to. It won’t be a College Football Playoff game or a New Year’s Six Bowl like we were all dreaming of a couple weeks ago, but the prospects are still interesting, thanks to the success of the Big Ten this season.
Ohio State (11-1), Michigan State (11-1) and Iowa (12-0) look to all be headed for the playoff or a New Year’s Six Bowl. That’s maybe especially true if the Spartans beat the Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Championship on Saturday, even though I would never ask you to pull for Michigan State in this game.

But three teams with one loss each would give Michigan the opportunity to possibly get an invite to the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1 in Orlando, Florida, which would be the most prestigious bowl game remaining.
Better yet, if that’s how things work out, there’s the possibility that LSU also gets an invite.
The bowl tweeted its interest in Michigan on Sunday night.
The road is a little less clear for the Tigers though.
Just imagine that: Michigan vs. LSU, Jim Harbaugh vs. Les Miles.
The Wolverines last played in the Citrus Bowl in 2008, beating Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators in Lloyd Carr’s final game. Michigan’s only bowl win since was the in the Sugar Bowl in 2012.
Aside from it being Les Miles’ chance to play Michigan, a school he’s said he would never say no to, this is an intriguing matchup on the field as well.
The Wolverines and Tigers are very similar in their approach. Both want to control the clock, run the ball and stifle you on defense. It’s fair to say both have been exposed at times this season, but they seem to be evenly matched teams with identities that would make for a tough football game.
I want to see Michigan’s defense get a shot at shutting down Leonard Fournette, and I want to see what LSU can do against a Wolverines offense that’s shown some pop down the stretch.
This is a matchup I want for all kinds of reason, and there are plenty of fans who have to feel the exact same way.
