Complete 2015 Michigan Quarterback Analysis and Grades
By Will Ropp
Zach Gentry (Freshman)
Gentry was Harbaugh’s first quarterback recruit. The University of Texas was Gentry’s preferred school when he committed to the longhorns in November of 2014. However, less than a month into Harbaugh’s Michigan move, Zach flipped to the wolverines and stayed with them through signing day. Standing at 6-foot-6, 230 pounds, Gentry has the physical prowess that Harbaugh is accustomed to with his quarterbacks. Gentry was rated the number four overall pro-style quarterback in his class which is a sign of his talent. However, coming from the state of New Mexico, Gentry has yet to face the type of competition he’ll see in the Big 10. It doesn’t help his situation that he wasn’t able to enroll during the spring and has to wait until summer workouts begin. Unlike Alex Malzone, who was able to play during the spring game, Zach will lack exposure to the offense and development of his technical skills. Though Gentry has a large amount of potential for the future, his name will most likely not be called this fall.
