Shonn Miller has a year of eligibility left in Division 1 basketball, but he won’t be using it at Cornell. The Ivy League has a rule against graduate students participating in athletics so Miller is transferring. Miller missed all of his junior year with a shoulder injury which has given him his extra year of eligibility. Michigan is one of the schools in the running for Miller and he would be a great addition.

Right now Michigan does not have any recruits in their 2015 class, but they also only have one scholarship available. If Caris Levert leaves for the NBA that will add another one, but either way Michigan needs to be smart with their scholarships and Miller is a smart bet. He averaged nearly 17 points per game along with 8.5 rebounds per game this season. He is also a great defender and averaged 1.8 blocks and 1.3 steals per game. Miller has shown he can have success against major conference schools and even tournament teams. Against Penn State this year he had 15 points and 3 blocks, against Syracuse he had 12 points, against Buffalo he had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and in an upset win over Harvard he had 24 points and 15 rebounds.
Miller is an athletic small forward and at 6-foot-7, 210 pounds he has good size for the position. With his rebounding ability he would be able to easily play the four spot in Michigan’s smaller lineups as well. Offensively he isn’t a great three point shooter but does have the range to make some which makes him a fit for John Beilein’s offense. The Wolverines do have some competition, however. Before meeting with Michigan Miller also met with Illinois, Connecticut, and Boston College. Miller is a mid west kid from Ohio so hopefully that will help Michigan’s chances in their pursuit of him.

Overall this would be a great addition for Michigan. They already have a lot of young talent so adding a veteran to the mix who could play right away would be big for them. He could step up instantly and compete for a spot in the starting lineup. There is a long way to go before the start of next season but it will be interesting to see how Michigan’s roster rounds out.
