When it comes to Jim Harbaugh people are always talking about the quarterbacks and the effect he will have on the passing game. Anyone who has really watched a Harbaugh coached team knows that the running game is just as important. Tim Drevno being the offensive coordinator only adds to the importance of the running game. The running back competition is wide open and Ty Isaac will look to become the feature back.

Coming out of high school in 2013 Isaac was a four star recruit according to ESPN. He was highly sought after and had offers from schools like Michigan, USC, Auburn, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. He ended up deciding to go to USC and got some playing time as a true freshman. He played well, rushing 40 times for 236 yards and two touchdowns. After the 2013 season he decided to transfer so he could be closer to his family. Issac is a Midwest kid having grown up in Illinois and decided to transfer to Michigan. After having to redshirt last season he will be looking to break out in 2015.

Isaac is a big back at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds. He is built like a linebacker and shows good power, but also has solid speed and great vision. Isaac really is the total package and has everything you look for in a great running back. He will have some competition, however. Derrick Green and De’Veon Smith are both back and looking to win the starting job. They both had an up and down season last year, but showed some flashes. Drake Johnson could also factor in to the competition depending on how well he is able to come back from the ACL tear he suffered against OSU last season.

When it comes to overall talent, Isaac has the inside track on becoming the starter at Michigan. Everything will depend on how quickly he can get back in the swing of things after having to sit out all of last season. I don’t see him having any trouble, and can’t wait to see what he can do on the field in a Michigan uniform. Michigan needs to establish an effective running game this year and it could all start with Isaac.
