The future is bright for Michigan basketball and we got a glimpse of it this afternoon. Michigan will now set their sights on making some noise in the Big Ten tournament.

After a tough loss at Northwestern earlier in the week Michigan was back on track today. A couple of freshman in particular really came up big. Aubrey Dawkins scored a career high 31 points on 10-15 shooting. He was on fire from beyond the arc as well making 8 of 11 three point attempts. It was the best game of his career and showed that he will be an impact player for Michigan for years to come. Kameron Chatman also had a great game. He was the most highly touted freshman coming into the season, but has struggled for the most part. He has played better as of late and had a career high today with 13 points on 4-5 shooting, including 3-3 from three point range.

As a team Michigan was tremendous. They had four players score in double figures with Zak Irvin and Max Bielfeldt joining Dawkins and Chatman. As a team the Wolverines made 14 three pointers and at times it seemed like they couldn’t miss. Dawkins was the big story though. He has the ability to be one of the best shooters in all of college basketball and could really break out next season. His great athleticism and defensive potential just adds to his overall skill set. He set the tone today and will look to carry his confidence into the Big Ten tournament.

Dawkins led the way for Michigan on Senior Day and helped Max Bielfeldt go out on top in his last game at the Crisler Center. Bielfeldt was tremendous in his own right ending the game with his first career double-double. He had 14 points on 6-10 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds. The regular season may be over for Michigan, but they still have something to play for. They can make an impact in the Big Ten tournament and also have a chance to make the NIT.
