Michigan Wolverine Football: Tim Drevno — Profile
Tell Them Drevno Is Coming
This reminds me a little bit of the great western Valdez is Coming, starring Burt Lancaster. We already have, of course, as has every other football source known to man. But here is the second, somewhat expanded, take on the hire.

Tim Drevno, like many of the formally announced, and suspected hires, has a coaching background that is associated with new Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. Drevno will be the new offensive coordinator and coach the offensive line. Drevno certainly was a positive asset to Harbaugh in establishing his pounding ground game at San Diego, Stanford, and somewhat the NFL San Francisco 49’ers. He has coached tight ends, the offensive line, and been a coordinator. The offensive line and tight end positions were highly regarded for production at every stop.
CoachBT offers this from his clinic notes:
-Excellent at developing physical linemen for a classic physical running game,
-His players have succeeded at every level.
-Technique teaching and mastering comes first, then becoming physical.
-Cover up the defender.
-Move the feet first, move them at a high level, this is a big part of good technique and should be heavily emphasized in daily practices.
-Offensive linemen should be very aggressive with their hands, the hands should be very active.
-The offensive line is a true group, a brotherhood that must act together to be a cohesive unit.
-A unit needs at least ten linemen capable of starting.
Michigan Wolverines
Coach Drevno has a gold star record of developing linemen and using this as an asset for a pounding, physical run game. As a running game coordinator, offensive line coach, tight end coach, and overall offensive coordinator the story and result has always been overwhelmingly positive. Just a few years ago, the Stanford running game and tight end play was the darling of college football. So, with this philosophy and the make-up of the head Coach, the only conclusion is that Michgan really does want to get physical, not just talk about it.
Coach Drevno’s complimentary comments about his returning players are refreshing:
“These guys have a want-to (attitude),” said Drevno. “They are intelligent and want to be leaders. They have the chemistry necessary to be exceptionally good.”
Clearly, Michigan under Jim Harbaugh is going power and pro style, more than finesse, unless Coach Drevno has undergone one of the strangest epiphanies of the millennium.
Why wouldn’t a group of decent line talent be thrilled to see Coach Drevno ride into town.
