Michigan Wolverine Football: Good Call / Bad Call

Good Call:
Our reporting about Drake Johnson. Now you can see why we felt he was our best back.

Bad Call:
David Brandon. I was a huge fan. And I still think winning solves all problems. But it is hard to build a brand when program is failing and even harder to continue to emphasize building that brand, despite the failures.

Good Call:
Amara Darboh. We kept saying he was potentially our best wide receiver. Has the best attitude and work ethic on the team.

Bad Call:
Coach Doug Nussmeier effect on Devin Gardner. I now realize that all the coaching in the world only goes so far and eventually a player has to make good decisions in games. When a quarterback is not allowed to be hit in practice it is tough at times to make adjustments in games. One would think the amount of experience Gardner has would eliminate some of those decisions, but it has not.

Good Call:
Jourdan Lewis and Delano Hill as future stars at Michigan. Lewis is already established and Hill is just now starting to emerge. I think they are starters for the next two years.

Bad Call:
My prediction that the defense would dominate. There have been signs of being a able to dominate games, but then all of a sudden opponents will go on at least one drive in each half.

Good Call:
Our interior defensive line. To me this will become the strength of our defense with Bryan Mone, Ondre Pipkins, and Maurice Hurst leading the way.

Bad Call:
Part of my prediction was Chris Wormley would not be on the 2-deep. Wormley has exceeded my expectations and is getting better.

Believe it or not, Coach Hoke has changed his approach this year. Results have not been what we all want, but at least I see some improvement from week one till now. Practices have continued to be tough during the week.

Bad Call:
Teams overall performance and record. I really thought this was the year we finally saw an “identity” with Michigan football. But our continued poor quarterback play along with very inconsistent offensive line play has once again made this team mediocre at best.

Good Call:
I still believe my analysis of talent is correct. This team as talent.

Bad Call:
I was wrong about Coach Darrell Funk.
