Michigan Football: Coach’s Corner — Ricky Barnum — Offensive Line — Wolverine’s Spring Football — GBMWolverine Evaluations
GBMWolverine Football Spring Evaluations: Position-by-Position — Player Profile.
GBMWolverine readers: Here is a brief overview of Ricky Barnum and GBMWolverine’s analysis concerning his progress this spring in our opinion.
Note: We will not evaluate every player on the team and with this position group (Offensive Line) we will not evaluate #61 Graham Glasgow and #70 Kristian Mateus. If you would like to chat about this player bring them up on the message board or send us an e-mail request.
Reminder: Also noted that we didn’t attend every practice and realize things happen during those fifteen practices, but our evaluations are based on what we seen first hand and in our opinion and not what we hear like just about every other site out there that relies on second, third hand information to make their evaluations of the players during the spring.
Losing from 2011 (Team #132) on scholarship: David Molk, Rocko Khoury, and Mark Huyge.
Coming in for 2012 (Team #133) on scholarship: Kyle Kalis, Blake Bars, Erik Magnuson, Ben Braden, and A.J. Williams (TE/OL).
Commit for 2013 (Team #134) on scholarship: Patrick Kugler, Logan Tuley-Tillman, David Dawson, Chris Fox, and Kyle Bosch.

It is the opinion of GBMWolverine that Ricky is the quickest offensive linemen and best puller on the team after watching practices for the past couple of years.
Ricky moves his feet extremely well and gets very good position when he pulls, and in this offense that quality is something that is needed and almost has to happen for the offense to have success. Coach Borges and Coach Funk like to have the offensive linemen moving a lot and like to take the punch to the defenders.
Despite being noticeably bigger this season, Ricky will more than likely never be a powerhouse run blocker taking on the defender straight up. He is at the center position for a reason.
Hopefully Ricky will stay healthy this season and be able to take over for David Molk. We are not expecting him to play like Molk or even be able to handle the position like Molk did, but Ricky needs to provide leadership in part by being able to help read the defense since he will be making many or most of the line calls for the offensive line that determines blocking packages. A center that makes a good read could create a mismatch that results in a big play. Make the wrong call and the result could leave a defensive lineman free to put a big hit either on the quarterback or the ball carrier; that usually is not a good thing.
