Overview:
Gareon Conley plays for one of most storied programs in the country, the famed Massillion Tigers.
Massillon now has several high schools, but Washington is still considered the hold over of the great Paul Brown tradition.
Last year, he started at corner-back and also contributed on special teams as a returner.
Gedeon is a very good overall athlete with a major program college body.
He also stars on the Massilion basketball team.
Strengths:
Gedeon has the ideal length and long arms that coaches look for in corner-backs and it is no secret the defensive staff has coveted the idea of size in the secondary.
Film shows quick feet and loose hips, traits not always present in defensive backs over 6 feet.
He reacts well to the ball in the air and shows solid make up speed.
The film view also demonstrates a solid wrap tackler and a willing hitter.
Gedeon’s ball skills can be classified as good and he reacts well to the ball in the air.
His biggest strengths are his overall quickness and speed, traits that college coaches highly value.
Needs work:
Gedeon definitely needs to spend a lot of time in the weight room to add weight and get stronger.
We would also like to see him pick up his physical play a bit.
One skill that appears to be a need is his ability to be more consistent with changing levels.
Final Thoughts:
Conley was an under the radar type, but this is becoming common as juniors and sophomores have had less starting experience in high school and opinions vary.
His team struggled last year (by Massillon standards) and his visibility may not have been that of other athletes in the football rich area.
By accounts, it also appears that Gedeon has not done as much to make himself as visible as others.
His senior season will be important for his preparation for Big Ten ball.
But, athletically, Gedeon fits the bill. Will he be another solid contributor or morph into an impact player? There are miles to go before that conclusion can be reached.
We appreciate his stated respect for Michigan and wish him the best.
We welcome Gareon Conley to Michigan and hope he has a successful career on and off the football field as a student-athlete at the University of Michigan. Go Blue!
Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?
GBMWolverine believes he will likely red-shirt his first year.
Gareon Conley reminds the GBMWolverine Staff of — Former Michigan Football Player — Jeremy LeSeur — who played Corner-back.
