Overview:
Chris is a successful three-sport high school athlete: he competes in football, basketball, and track and field.
Wormley plays defensive end for one of the top teams in Northwest Ohio, Toledo Whitmer.
Whitmer played in the Semi-finals of the Division One Football Championship.
Chris also finished 6th in discus and 9th in Shot Put at the Ohio State Meet.
Like many recent Michigan recruits Chris is a good student with a 3.4 GPA.
Strengths:
Chris has great size and frame.
He is one of those athletes who appear to be 220 pounds instead of 255.
He has the frame to easily weigh close to 300 pounds.
Chris uses his long arms to press out and shed blockers and he moves very well for his size and shows a good burst.
His foot speed is very good and his athleticism is well above average.
Wormley plays a disciplined game and is skilled regarding sound positioning.
One observation that impressed us was his improved motor and energy level between his sophomore and junior film.
Here is an athlete with clear upside, perhaps very high upside.
Needs work:
As with most linemen, Chris needs to add weight and strength, probably more so in the upper body.
Playing three sports has affected the amount of time spent in the weight room.
His lateral movement also needs to improve and he must be more consistent with his effort.
Although it may be a bum rap, Chris has been the subject of many sites discussing a low motor.
Many very talented athletes gain this perception because the observer expects super performance from a super athlete.
Final Thoughts:
We welcome Chris Wormley to Michigan and hope he has a successful career on and off the football field as a student-athlete at the University of Michigan. Go Blue!
Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?
GBMWolverine believes he will likely red-shirt his first year. The talent is starting to build, but it is time to get the young guys big and nasty before they hit the field.
Chris Wormley reminds the GBMWolverine Staff of — Former Michigan Football Player — James Hall — who played Defensive End.
