GBMWolverine Game Predictions and Commentary:

ErocWolverine:

Well another game should win handily, but again that is why they play the games. Bowling Green lost their quarterback for this week which is another blow for them.

As I said last week, on paper this game should be a game where a lot of players finally get some reps in front of the hometown crowd and be able to play in Michigan Stadium with their family and friends watching on. Last week that didn’t happen so hopefully this week it does.

Really think Michigan will come out with the business like mentality and not overlook Bowling Green like they obviously did last week against UMass even though the players and coaches tried telling everybody otherwise.

Michigan needs to get some things worked out before Big Ten play starts because that is when we will know how much improved this team is compared to last years team. I am sure everybody knows or remember what happened last Big Ten season after starting off 4-0.

Really think Michigan dominates this game. Think the offense will roll Bowling Green’s defense especially in the second half where Michigan should be able to wear down their defense.

Michigan’s defense going up against the second string quarterback (which it seems like a battle between the 2nd and 3rd in practice this week) should be a game where Michigan can improve and work out some of the problems they had this season.

Michigan overhwelms BGSU’s undersized and inexpereinced defense.

Doc4Blu:

BG can score em and give em up, both parts of the equation will likely follow suite Saturday. Things can change in one week, and things better change for the better regarding defense and special teams or the entire Big Ten schedule will be skating on thin ice with little margin of error (read turnovers).

It sounds as if the defense got lit up pretty good by the coaches. Well that is a start, but getting the guys to play the assignments is the job of the staff. Let us see how much energy and preparation went into correcting assignment errors.

BG will be at a big disadvantage if Michigan pulls ahead by two touchdowns early. Having a qb in the Big House with little experience and being behind SHOULD play well in UM’s favor. No doubt the base running game (sans Denard) will again be emphasized. UM will want to do what was intended last wek, get ahead and play some guys. We will see if the plan works this time out.

Come on Defense get it together

Bowling Green 27 — Michigan 48

Yostmeister:

The defense is going to be horrendous in the Big Ten if they can’t defend contain, especially to the wide side of the field. Their secondary has to become more aggressive, too. The spread at 24.5 is too big.

2-1 on predictions so far.

If there is a game this season where the defense should be at their best it is against a Bowling Green squad that is playing their backup QB. The Falcons are far removed from the days when Urban Meyer was on the sidelines to lead the team to a 17-6 record over two seasons. Dave Clawson is a solid coach who led the Falcons to a Humanitarian bowl game last season before Bowling Green was defeated by a last minute touchdown and two point conversion by the Vandals from Idaho.

My sense is this game will be decided on the ground. The Falcons currently allow 194 ypg and that is while playing the likes of Troy, Tulsa and Marshall. Tulsa might be the best comparison for the teams Bowling Green has played so far and the Green Wave rolled up 546 total yards, 31 first downs, on their way to a 13 point victory.

The thing to watch is whether Michigan’s defense can hold the Falcons to their lowest point total thus far. With a back-up QB starting for Bowling Green there is reason for concern if the Wolverines can’t hold their opponent below the 20 points allowed by Tulsa. My sense is the offense fires on all cylinders and the defense gives us some confidence as we head into the Big Ten season.
