WOLVERINE FOOTBALL RETURNS – TIME TO WIN!!!!!

Rhetoric, analysis, predictions, insight, and drama; all have followed the Michigan Wolverine football program for months. In the words of a somewhat bygone less sensitive era (the good old days) it is time to shut up and play; no excuses, just win.

Certainly, no one can fault the effort of the staff and especially the players in the preparation for the upcoming season and we all hope it is successful and exciting. The outcome will depend on a myriad of variables and events that will determine the season’s ultimate success. Coaches plan and prepare for what they can control and leave the rest to fate. Outstanding coaches and organizers plan for more possibilities than their contemporaries, and coaches with greater talent can make the effort to control all within reach pay off with big dividends.

College football is unique in that the season is about three months (not counting time off for bowls) and so the fan base gets a little weary of talk and chomps at the bit to see the favorite sons, long sliced, diced, and dissected every which way but loose, get on the field and hit someone in a different uniform. They are not alone, the players and coaches are at that stage and this week all concerned will entertain a “cannot wait mentality.” This makes college football on Saturdays (or as TV dictates) so special; there is no nine-month pro basketball or hockey scenario where one game is meaningless or a fan might say how did the team do last week, I lost track? It is not even a pro football setting where teams are at least visible for a period of July to perhaps early February. No, indeed, every game counts and the week is spent preparing for the rare days of the year the warriors give it all; 365 days only contains 12 game days, each event to be savored and valued.

Everyone is 0-0 and hope springs eternal, just ask the Cub fans. Winning football games takes more than hope, it takes talent, well thought out schemes, outstanding planning, superior execution, physical conditioning and mental toughness down the stretch, and now and then a little luck is most welcomed.

And so, it is game week, and college teams will now use the allotted practice time in full to prepare for the openers. Bask in the excitement everyone and enjoy the season as it unfolds.

GBMWolverine will work overtime this week and present numerous features and articles that we believe the readership will enjoy. The Connecticut offense and defense will be discussed, the Michigan offense and defense will be discussed, what Michigan needs to do to gain a winning record will be discussed, and our staff will play at coordinator and formulate a game plan for each team. As the week progresses we will go out on that narrow plank and make our collective predictions and give the rationale behind the crystal ball oration.

ATTENTION GBMWOLVERINE READERS
