GBMW Link Man: Steve K’s — Why Michigan will win / why Michigan State will win

The Tate, The Tate, The Tate!

Excuse my taking liberties with “The Team”, but this team and this game is lays directly on the bruised shoulders of Mr. Forcier. Many people are quick to dismiss a Spartan team that is 1 and 3, much like most of UM’s losses last year a Sparties are also by a TD or less, and were on the same late heroics situation with ND that UM capitalized upon. Denard’s quick feet withstanding, and even with a capable arm does not have the force, or well vision Tate does and in this game that is going to be important.

Why Spartans will win:

Home field is going to be huge in this match-up. Will the crowd and the first time playing in someone else’s sandbox trip up the Wolverines? Or maybe the forecasted wet weather will be able to tie the “shoelaces” and slow down a UM team that by all accounts will be the fastest the Spartans face. There are also some very capable players on the roster despite what the record shows. Though they do not have a huge name back as usual at MSU, we have seen what Large O-linemen can do to UM’s frontline. But, the team is more then making up for lack of ground via airmail. Though MSU will feature two QBs, look for Kirk Cousins to start he has already hooked up for 7 TDs with only 2 picks, and a 60% completion rating. His long is a 57 yard hook-up, which against a CB group in flux, could make for a long day if the water doesn’t ground their game. They also have Nichols as the second head of the QB tandem and even though they lost to UW, he orchestrated a late fourth quarter romp at Raucous Randle Stadium, leading two TD scores in two minutes.

Why the Wolverines will win:

The collective exhale from the UM faithful hearing Tate will be on the field could rival that of that ferry-tale wolf. Tate has shown composure even in stressful situations, hopefully that will happen in this hostile environment – where his airball lineman pick versus IU would be gobble up by Sparty faithful. The weather forebodes the ND game last year so ball security is a must, and hopefully young Tate plays within himself as I believe the UM running game is going to give a Spartan defense fits, as they have been as porous as UM. If the running game is clicking expect the UM offense which is average a play every twenty seconds to take the air out of sparty players and the East Lansing denizens. The defense must get pressure in the backfield, these too are new QBS and though they have been tested abroad – this is the biggest game in their young careers. Look for this to be another nail biter that UM pulls out in the fourth.
