Mailbag Question: About Les Miles

facebooktwitterreddit

Hello:

I saw your guys post on the GBW PB about Les Miles and wanted to say “Thank You” for actually seeing that it is a good thing for former Michigan assistant coaches doing well at other programs. That will only make Michigan a better program knowing it can make assistant coaches and prepare them for taking over their own program some day.

My question is does Les Miles winning and Coach Rod losing just keep putting pressure on Michigan and the athletic department or doesn’t it matter right now?

How many wins do you see for next year and are we really “hoping” or counting on a true freshmen to save this program next year?

Thanks for the question. Les Miles being successful probably puts Mr. Martin in bit of hot seat, but that goes with the job. If he had picked Coach Miles or any other head coach, he would be same hot seat if coach did not win.

Wins are what it is all about. Wins will 100% fix most the problems with any program. Michigan, for whatever reason did not win enough games this year.

As for next year, it is imperative Michigan gets to at least 6-7 wins and becomes bowl eligible. You need those additional practices when trying to establish new schemes and build experience in young players.

I hope that my Blue Brothers do not expect Beaver or Forcier to be the “Savior” of this Michigan program for the 2009 football season. If they do, they will be greatly disappointed and the kids will have excessively much pressure on them.

What we here are hoping for is improved quarterback play, and showing enough skill that you can see where this program will be in near future.
Here is my post on GBW for others to see about Coach Miles when somebody was trying to trash him in the first quarter of the Troy game last Saturday.

ErocWolverine:
I love post like that in the beginning of the game trashing a coach and asking if Michigan fans still want him.

The ones that posters like to ASSume or even predict who wins the game. Maybe that is what is wrong with Michigan football right now? That posters and Michigan football players, coaches, fans, etc think football is only 1 or 2-quarter games.

I love how people want to bash a person that just won a National Championship and lost many people to the NFL along with losing his starting quarterback who he kicked off the team. If he did not do that, they would have been in contention once again for the SEC and who knows after that.

Another point they lost to three top 10 teams this year (Alabama who is #1, Florida who will be moving up and they are #4 and Georgia who is #10 in the country). Aren’t we glad we don’t have that kind of schedule along with wouldn’t we all want to be LSU right now in a heartbeat. Those loses seem to be a lot better than losing to Northwestern, Purdue, Michigan State, Penn State, Toledo, Illinois, Notre Dame and Utah.

Yea I really hate when former Assistant Coaches at Michigan do well at other places … lol … makes the university look so bad. I remember when people were upset that other assistant coaches did not do what Les Miles is doing right now and making something out of himself and carrying the Michigan name with him.

Just like when posters were happy when Ball State and Brady Hoke was doing so well there were many posters bashing those posters that were happy to see a former Michigan assistant coach doing so well.

Was Les Miles my top choice? Well YES with the stipulations that Bill Martin gave the committee TO FOLLOW, but then he shut the committee down after they came back with Les Miles name twice and he took over the search himself.

Was he my top choice if I was deciding or making a top five list? Nope.

Some people will never get this, but if Les would have been here this year we would not be going through what we are right now with a 3-8 and possible 3-9 record and that is because he would have kept the current system or something very close to what Michigan has been using for years.

Those that do not think that Les Miles winning a National Championship and bolting to Michigan would not have given Michigan some positive buzz and get some big name recruits last year along with this year are blinded by the maize and blue light.

Does that mean I do not like Coach Rod? Nope not at all, but it is going to take longer to get back where we all want to be and it won’t be next year either because of having to get his players here since he changed the entire program. I have also stated several times all the things I like and do not like what Coach Rod has done since arriving at Michigan.

Another one I am not sure he will actually get or even understand is the Ohio State game. Yes, he is saying all the right things, but until you experience that game at Ohio State, I am not sure you will get it fully. I think he thinks this is a Pitt / WV rivalry … it is far more than that in so many levels and some he will see for the first time once he steps off the bus in C-Bus.

CoachBt:
Am I missing something? Those want others to quit talking about Coach Miles start a thread about him.

Once again, welcome to The “Twilight Zone”. I will personally always like Coach Miles, think he is very good coach, and not wish him any ill will.

In addition, as all know by now, he was not my first choice for new head coach. Just respect what he has accomplished, and appreciate the help he has given me personally. If that makes me bad person, or less a Michigan fan in minds of some, So Be It. I am not changing.
