Michigan football is very much alive in the race for the College Football Playoff. Here’s three things you should root for on championship weekend.

As championship week gets ready to start tonight, Michigan football is clearly still in the playoff mix. But with all the scenarios on the table, what will it take for the Wolverines to actually get selected for the College Football Playoff?

With all five Power-5 conferences essentially having a conference championship game, there are numerous outcomes that could unfold.

Obviously, the most important game for Michigan football is Washington vs Colorado in the PAC-12 title game Friday night.

The committee characterized the Wolverines as extremely close to Washington in their eyes, meaning a Huskies loss could be enough to get Michigan football into the top four.

Yet, with other marquee matchups it’s hard to be sure of anything. The BIG Championship and showdown between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State could also sway things.

Remember, two years ago, TCU won 56-3 on the final weekend of the season. After entering the final weekend ranked No.3, it seemed like that would be enough.

However, Ohio State shutout Wisconsin 59-0 to win the Big Ten title and that performance swayed the committee. The Horned Frogs fell to sixth.

We can talk all we want about top-10 victories, conference championships and head-to-head results, but in the end, the committee is going to put in what it sees as the four best teams.

It may be hard to predict what the committee is going to do, but based on precedent and a tiny amount of logic, here’s three things that would help Michigan be one of those teams.
