Michigan is coming off their biggest win of the season at home over Ohio State. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier, however, as they will be going on the road to play #14 ranked Maryland. This will be the first and only meeting between the two teams in the regular season. Michigan vs Maryland may not have a ton of intrigue from the casual fans perspective, but it will be another tough test for a young Michigan basketball team.

Before their win over OSU last Sunday, Michigan had lost five straight games. They were able to pull off the upset Sunday because they played a near perfect first half, and got great performances from stars Spike Albrecht and Zak Irvin. The two combined for 31 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists, 4 steals, and no turnovers. They also got solid bench production from Max Bielfeldt and true freshman Kameron Chatman. Michigan has lost their last three road games, although two of them were in OT and the other was by just three points.

Maryland is on a little bit of a hot streak having won four straight games, with their last win being on Tuesday over #5 ranked Wisconsin. They are also extremely tough to beat at home compiling a 17-1 home record this season, with the lone loss being to the current number two team in the country, Virginia. Maryland has a well-rounded team led by freshman guard Melo Trimble. Trimble leads the team in both scoring and assists.

Michigan faces a tough task tomorrow afternoon as they look to build on their victory over OSU. They will need to come into the game with the same intensity they did last Sunday and make Maryland work hard on both ends of the court. They will also need to continue to get great performances from their stars in Albrecht and Irvin. John Beilein’s team will certainly be ready, but I’m not sure they have enough ammunition to pull of another upset. If the game were being played at the Crisler Center it would be a different story, but I see Maryland pulling out a close victory.
