Michigan Wolverine Football: Jim Harbaugh Offered 49 million for Six Years?

Well it seems real now for Michigan fans who have been speculating for four years now if or when Jim Harbaugh would get an offer. Did he get one the last search? A lot of people believe he did and why the former athletic director held out so long to firing Rich Rodriguez and replacing him with Brady Hoke on January 11th of 2010. Remember Brady could have been brought in right after the Ohio State game, or at the latest right after the blow-out loss to Mississippi State, but waited, just like this time for Jim to decide on where he wants to coach and what level of football.

It has been reported that the University of Michigan has extended an offer to Jim Harbaugh who is the current San Fransisco 49ers head coach to come back to home to coach the Michigan Wolverine football program. The athletic director for Michigan Jim Hackett has kept quiet on the search ever since making the announcement of the firing of Coach Brady Hoke.

It is no secret that the 49ers management team and Coach Jim Harbaugh have had some friction this past year. Reports of problems in the front office has trickled down to the players locker room who seemingly have went from being a NFC Championship/Super Bowl contender the past three seasons to being on the outside looking in for the playoffs this season.

The rumor is Coach Harbaugh has been offered a six year deal worth 49 million dollars. Some Michigan fans on message board and sports talk radio have complained or worried that Michigan would go “cheap” with an offer to Jim Harbaugh. Well I think we can put that to bed right now especially knowing this is the largest coaching salary for any head coach in football. Not just college football, but the NFL as well. It shows that Michigan is serious about changing the culture at Michigan and wanting to get back to their roots of winning football games and winning championships.
