More Quack-Quacks — Michigan Goes Duck Hunting

Both teams are 3-0 and both have played similar completion. Oregon recently beat MAC favorite Toledo. Both Oregon and Michigan played Detroit Mercy with similar results.
If you like up and down basketball with hustle and hard push, this might be delightful. Oregon plays intense ball and a team that slows down mentally or physically against the Ducks is in for some grief.
The Ducks have one of the nation’s top players in Joseph Young, who led the PAC 12 in scoring last year and is on the Wooden Award list. Young is one of those rare players who shoots near 90% from the foul line. This is a great luxury for a coach in endgame situations.

Both teams have plenty of youth and it is a safe bet both coaching staffs are wary but eager to see which youngsters struggle in the first game away from home. Both coaches will rely on the veterans.
Oregon and Michigan have another common trait, both do not mind firing the three-pointers. It is not beyond possibility that both teams fire up 20-25 long rangers in this meeting.
Oregon should have some advantage inside, but with three bodies of similar frame, Michigan may make this area of the match-up a push; that is what the Michigan coaches may be wanting. But giving up plenty of inside points would make Michigan’s mission at the very least difficult.

Busting Brackets
Michigan has the usual things to worry about and improve upon: at least attempting to create an inside game, defending the lane, getting to the ball on time when rotating, and maybe working on achieving better shot selections. Oregon will make Michigan pay if the defense is constantly moving to regain defensive position.
Michigan will play either VCU or Villanova, two top twenty teams, on Tuesday. So, this little East Coast gaunt will tell where Michigan is compared to other similar programs. Being young and not having established a middle presence, coming up with a win may be a tough order. But early season two-day events like this can provide surprises, both good and bad. Tune in Monday and see if Michigan can score a win over Nike U.
