Michigan Wolverine Football: Just a Few Things

Just a Few Things to Get Off My Chest

1) I just get tired of people who claim they are “insiders” and continue to use the term “factions” to explain what is wrong with Michigan and its football program. “Factions” were a convenient way of defending Rich Rodriguez and it has now continued to explain the hiring of Brady Hoke and the inability of Michigan’s program to move forward. But notice, nobody ever says who in part of the “faction” who are these people. Nobody, and I mean nobody has put themselves or any agenda ahead of Michigan football being successful. If they have, who are they and what have then done. Notice when it comes to facts people are silent.

2) Lloyd Carr is not part of nor had he ever been part of any group that hindered Michigan football. That means now, during any hiring process when RR was coach at Michigan. Again, people who have an agenda or want to protect someone uses Carr as a scapegoat. There are many things Carr can be criticized for, in fact, it is my opinion that the downward trend of Michigan football actually started during Carr’s tenure. But Carr has nothing to do with any of the failures of either Hoke or RR.

3) For the last time, Dave Brandon did offer Jim Harbaugh the job and during November and even December before Hoke was hired he had every indication that Harbaugh would come to Michigan. People like to revise history, but just take a moment and ask yourself, if Hoke was Brandon’s #1 choice, why wait until January?

4) There are many reasons why Michigan football has been a failure, we have all discussed the reasons, but the failure has to lay at the feet of the head coach at Michigan, whoever that coach is. The football coach at Michigan is given as much support as he needs and nobody behind the scenes is purposely keeping any coach at Michigan from being successful.

5) Going forward, I think it is going to be tough for any coach to come to Michigan and compete consistently at a top 10 level. Not saying it is impossible, but tough. However, and this is a point I continue to state Michigan should compete consistently in the Big 10. Not being competitive in the Big 10 and being such a disaster when playing on the road, says something about the overall toughness of the program. It has been going on now for almost a decade.

Off topic, here is a interesting coach, the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals Todd Bowles.
