Michigan Wolverines: Appalachian State — Game Notes

Michigan opens up it’s 135th season today at noon against Appalachian State. Michigan has won five consecutive home openers. Michigan is 110-21-3 all-time in season openers.

Coach Hoke is 3-0 as Michigan’s head coach in home openers and has won six in a row as a head coach which he coached at SDSU and Ball State previously.

Even though this is the second time that Michigan has played Appalachian State, it is the first time that Michigan will face a team from the Sun Belt conference.

Michigan returns 16 of 22 starters from last seasons team.

During that same span, the program made 20 FCS playoff appearances and captured FCS national titles in 2005, ‘06 and ‘07. Saturday’s game marks Appalachian State’s first as a member of the FBS and the Sun Belt Conference.

Michigan is one of three schools in the Big Ten and one of nine nationally in a power-five conference that does not play an FCS opponent this season.
