Between the end of the season and beginning of spring practice, Michigan players spend their time with winter conditioning.
The game plan is to get players ready for the first day of spring practice.
With so many position changes this year, some Wolverines were forced to drop pounds while others were asked to add muscle.
Aaron Wellman, Michigan’s strength and conditioning coach, is beginning his 11th year with head coach Brady Hoke, dating all the way back to the days at Ball State.
There are three glaring changes among the 2014 Wolverines.
First, redshirt freshman Chris Fox dropped 28 pounds while rehabbing a nasty knee injury suffered during his senior year in high school.
Double torn meniscus
“I (had) a torn ACL and a double torn meniscus on my left knee,” Fox told Josh Newkirk over at scout.com. “It was the last game of the season. We were up by big. I was just running down field blocking a kid. I just twisted up on it weird and heard it pop three times. That’s it.”
Power back Derrick Green, who arrived in Ann Arbor last fall at a disappointing 240 lbs., is now a more manageable 227. On the other side of the spectrum, wide receiver Csont’e York added 14 pounds to his 6-3 frame.
The chart below illustrates how many of the Wolverines changed their physiques in the off season.
