Michigan Football: 2014 Roster — Going Into Spring — Safeties

Going into spring football we are going to do our version of the roster breakdown and what we believe going into spring football might look like.

Michigan Football Spring practices start February 25th.

Well looking at the depth chart below and not bringing in anybody in the 2013 recruiting class you have to believe that somebody from the cornerback position will likely move over this spring and try out at safety.

Would also assume that Coach Mattison will likely use a cornerback as the nickel back as well especially if he is trying to get more speed on the field along with a very talented incoming freshman Peppers.

Will be interesting this spring how Thomas, Wilson, Hill, and Clark all do this spring and could be telling by or if Coach Mattison decides to try somebody at safety.

This position has been hurting the defense for quite some time. Are best safety in a very long time was a walk-on (Kovacs), but he was very limited athletically along with his speed especially his senior year when he had a lineman’s knee brace on for most of the year.

We have guys that can play the position that are very talent, quick, and very athletic, but now is the time to start showing it. Time to stop thinking and reacting to the ball and knowing not only where you need to be, but also everybody else on the field to help get people in the right position.

A lot of youth or limited playing experience in this group and they need to get acclimated to playing very quickly because there is nobody else behind them anymore unless Coach Mattison sees them struggling and moves a cornerback there during spring ball.
