Lost in the shuffle behind two highly recruited Michigan running backs, Thomas Rawls transferred to the Central Michigan Chippewas , according to numerous tweets and a story by mlive.com today.
Rawls became a backup to the nation’s No. 1 RB recruit Derrick Green and Ohio’s No. 1 DeVeon Smith. He was destined to trail Drake Johnson and Justice Hayes too, when spring practice arrived. A powerful 5-10, 217 pounder from Flint Northern HS, Rawls finished his three-year Wolverine career with 333 yards on 73 carries.
“I’m looking for a better opportunity to showcase my talents being in the backfield and having my opportunity hopefully if God blesses me to play at the next level,” Rawls said. “(Michigan) wasn’t really mad and they might have felt a little disappointed but I don’t think they were expecting me to leave but they were there for me and supported me with my decision.”
Rawls best run was a 63-yarder against Illinois in 2012.
