Michigan Football: Just A Note From Alabama Contact

Have some contacts in Alabama and it seems like our favorite coach Nick Saban informed Coach Nussmeier after the Auburn game to look around. To somewhat send the message to everyone, he brought in Kiffin as a “consultant” for bowl game.

Couple of comments given to me.

1) Alabama despite great offensive numbers was not happy with the overall progress of the OL in 2013.
2) Saban was not overly impressed with Nuss and his preparation and attention to details.
3) Saban thought the offense should of been able to “control” the ball more and started to rely too much on a Senior QB and passing game which allowed teams to take advantage of Alabama’s defense.

This is some of the opinions from Alabama, it in no way should be interpreted that I believe it was a bad hire. However, UM and coaches knew about this situation for weeks, going all the way back before bowl practices.

My thought is that Nuss was probably not a great fit with Saban and will feel much more at home with Hoke and his style. In addition, I think Nuss is going to come to UM very motivated. I love the hire because it goes against most of UM hires in that we hired a guy who has bigger aspirations and does not see UM as a destination job.

In addition, you cannot argue his ability to develop QB’s which was something (IMO) sorely needed at UM. I doubt in spring practice we see Gardner smile after he makes a mistake.
