Michigan Football: C. Florida, Air Force, and SMU added to Football Schedules

The University of Michigan Athletic Department announced Wednesday (Oct. 23) some additions and changes to the non-conference football schedules for the 2016 through 2018 seasons. The Wolverines have reached agreements with three institutions to play games at Michigan Stadium.

Michigan will host Central Florida at the Big House on Sept. 10, 2016, in what will be the first meeting between the two institutions on the gridiron. The Ball State game, originally slated for Sept. 24, 2016, will be played at a future date yet to be determined. Michigan will play three straight home games to open the 2016 season, bookending the Hawaii (Sept. 3) and Colorado (Sept. 17) games around the match-up with Central Florida. The Wolverines will have an open date before starting the nine-game Big Ten Conference schedule.

In 2017, the Air Force Academy will make its third trip to Ann Arbor for a Sept. 16 game. The Wolverines have won both previous matchups against the Cadets at Michigan Stadium, including a 31-25 contest in 2012. Michigan previously announced a Sept. 9 contest with Cincinnati at the Big House and has one open date left to fill during the 2017 season. The agreement with Air Force also includes a men;s basketball game between the two schools during the 2015-16 or 2017-18 seasons to be played at Crisler Center.

Meanwhile, Michigan will host Arkansas (Sept. 1) in the 2018 season opener and has an open date slated for a home contest on Sept. 8. The Wolverines signed a one-game agreement with Southern Methodist University to play at the Big House on Sept. 15, 2018. U-M won the only previous meeting against the Mustangs, a 27-16 contest at Michigan Stadium in 1963. Michigan will begin the nine-game conference slate against Nebraska on Sept. 22 at the Big House.
