Over The Rainbow — What Is Michigan’s Plan to Improve in 2013 — Part II

Some would say that Coach Borges move to get over the rainbow and been severely hindered by running a semi-foreign Denard-centered offense the last two years. But, the injury to Denard and the insertion of Devin Gardner at quarterback accelerated the metamorphosis to the pro style package. The offense may be behind the defense in getting over the rainbow; however, the parts are certainly in place, discounting quarterback depth, for the offense to grow as a young unit together.

The young line will struggle against big and active defenses this year, like most non-elite teams. But the hype matches the talent regarding this group. Pulling technique and getting to the edge have been questioned regarding the 2013 group, but there is better size and athleticism than the three fine seniors who gave it their best in 2012. Experience only comes from playing, so the interior guys will have at it and there will be ups and downs.

The receiver position is starting to settle in and the future looks better. Michigan is fortunate to have two fine senior leaders in Gallon and Dileo. The rest of the corps will shake out from guys who learn how to run routes, read the defenses, and consistently catch the ball.

That rainbow may still be a distance away. But steps are being taken to get to the Promised Land. A little luck in close games this year would be nice. Coaches do not plan on luck as a primary factor. Coaches rely on talent, planning, and execution.
