Michigan Football: Lewan, Ryan Land on Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List

From: MGoBlue

University of Michigan football fifth-year senior left tackle Taylor Lewan (Cave Creek, Ariz./Chaparral HS) and senior/junior linebacker Jake Ryan (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius HS) were named today (Monday, July 15) to the 2013 Rotary Lombardi Award watch list, given annually to the nation’s top down lineman or linebacker.

Lewan, Ryan and the other candidates received a spot on the watch list by earning All-America or all-conference honors in 2012.

Lewan was a 2012 All-America first-team choice by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, Associated Press, ESPN.com and SI.com. He also was named the Big Ten Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year and was an All-Big Ten first team choice by the league’s coaches and media during his junior campaign.

A three-year starter, Lewan has opened 35 career games at left tackle, including 28 consecutive. He previously was named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award and Outland Trophy.

Ryan started 13 games in 2012, leading the Wolverines with 88 tackles, 16 stops for losses, 4.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. An All-Big Ten second team choice by the media as a redshirt sophomore, Ryan has started 24 of 26 career games.

The 44th Rotary Lombardi Award will be held on Dec. 11, 2013, at the Wortham Center in Houston, Texas.

The Rotary Lombardi Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA). The NCFAA and its members are unveiling their preseason watch lists over a 12-day period in July. Fifteen of the association’s 21 awards select a preseason watch list.
