Michigan Basketball: NCAA Tournament — Final Four — Michigan vs. Syracuse — Quite A Match-up

The VCU and Michigan match up was hailed as the premiere match up of the 2013 tournament, The Syracuse and Michigan match-up may surpass the above lofty ranking. I have thought about many what ifs the last week. These will happen but no one yet knows the result.

Can Trey Bruke get by a great 6’ 6 athlete, Michael Carter-Williams to get into the middle area to pull up or pass? Can Burke actually penetrate both layers of the zone and get inside baskets or easy feeds? Can Burke penetrate enough to give Hardaway and Stauskas some reasonable looks? Can Michigan make up for the slow and deliberate Syracuse zone by getting out and running when possible?

Can Michigan defend inside, and can Burke and others prevent lay-ups from the Syracuse guards? Can the Michigan perimeter reverse the ball fast enough to get good shots?

But perhaps the biggest question that may actually decide the game is how well Michigan plays defense. All of the talk all week has been about the Syracuse zone and the Michigan outside shooting. But Michigan must play good defense to win.

I believe it is a myth that Michigan will need to fire 25 footers the entire game. There must be other options or Syracuse’s job is too easy.

Well, we will find out soon enough.
