Michigan Basketball: Pittsburgh vs. Michigan — NIT Tournament — On to the Big Boys in New York
Both Pittsburgh and Michigan started the season off with comfortable home wins against lesser competition. Both have looked impressive enough to satisfy the fan base.
Wednesday that changes as both teams play a quality opponent for the first time. For Michigan this is the start of plenty of good competition: Pitt, perhaps Kansas State, North Carolina State (playing as well as any team in the nation) and Arkansas.Pitt is playing two freshmen regularly and has as a roster member one Trey Zeigler from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Pitt has good size and has in the past played very strong defense.
The last game out Pitt came from 18 down to beat pesky Oakland. Oakland was 7 points up with one minute to go.
Michigan will need to match size and good athletes with good shooting and quick athletes. By next week this should be a nice indicator of where the young Wolverines are regarding playing at a high level with playing Pittsburgh on Wednesday, possible Kansas State on Friday in the Finals, and then playing N.C. State at Crisler on next Tuesday in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
