Michigan Football: Coach’s Corner — GBMWolverine Preview of Alabama’s Defense
Here is a little follow-up from the previous articles featuring Alabama’s defense. Year in and year out this unit is physical and tough to score on. A high level of talent and some excellent defensive coaching allow for this success. In a 3-4, the front three need to be big, physical, and pretty mobile. Teams that have great interior linemen can turn loose the linebackers.
A few things to consider are listed below.
-Alabama returns four starters from the nations top defense. But do not place forward the assumption that the cupboard is now bare. Talented newcomers and veterans that have been waiting in the wings are going for the glory.
Key returners on the Bama defense include LB’ers Nico Johnson and CJ Mosley and DB’s Robert Lester and Dee Milner.
As mentioned above, the strength of the Crimson Tide should be the front 3. Damain Squares and JC Jesse Williams are big, quick, and nasty Linemen.
Add in two straight top recruiting classes loaded with skilled defenders and it is easy to see why Alabama does not expect a huge drop off on the defense.
The Michigan offense will need to be patient and persistent. When the opportunity arises, it must be seized.
