Michigan Football: Wolverine Schedule Notes — Colorado News Tidbits

The Michigan Wolverines football program recently announced non-conference match-ups against Utah, Oregon State, UNLV, and Colorado for 2014, 2015, and 2016.

Today we will discuss news tidbits regarding the Colorado game and take the pulse of the Boulder media and how the Buffalos feel about the upcoming game.

•Michigan will host the Colorado Buffalos football program on Saturday, September 17, 2016 and the two schools have negotiated to have ESPN televise the game nationally, according to Kyle Ringo of the Daily Camera.

•This game will mark the fifth meeting between the two universities.

•The Buffalo will earn a guaranteed $1.45 million for playing at Michigan Stadium.

•This is not a home-and-home series and Michigan will not be playing at Folsom Field in Boulder, CO anytime in the near future.

•Colorado University athletic director Mike Bohn stated that scheduling the game is “about providing a wonderful opportunity for our fans to see something unique and something that maybe they would never have an opportunity to see.”

•The Daily Camera pointed out that Bohn was looking to take the Colorado football team on the road to the northeast and to a destination within driving distance of the Chicago area to give large numbers of Colorado alumni in those areas an opportunity to see their team in person—this match-up with Michigan will do just that for Bohn and Colorado University.

•Bohn stated, “They had an opening for a road game and we were looking for an away game. A guaranteed appearance on ESPN and a significant (financial) guarantee works for us on those fronts as well. It just fit in the overall philosophy of scheduling. We’re thrilled to be able to play in one of the most storied facilities against a great team. We really want to do everything we can to begin playing in that part of the country and reach our alums in that part of the country.”

•CU and UM have played four times with the Wolverines leading the series 3-1. The two schools last played each other in 1997 at Michigan Stadium.

•Michigan Stadium is the home of the “Miracle in Michigan” in 1994, when the Buffalo’s won 27-26 on the final play of the game. Colorado’s quarterback Kordell Stewart threw a Hail Mary pass to Michael Westbrook for the winning touchdown.

•According to Parker Baruh of the Ralphie Report, CU fans are excited for the match-up with Michigan because previous rumors had the Buffalos arranging a home-and-home series with fellow Big Ten conference rival Purdue Boilermakers and, apparently, the fans thought the game would be weak because Purdue is a “boring” team.

•Michigan has scheduled four games against three Pac-12 schools during the past month. The Wolverines will also be playing a home-and-home series with Utah and will be hosting Oregon State.
