Simple question, or maybe not.
What are the differences from Coach Borges offense and last year’s offense from Coach RR’s staff?
What are the differences/similarities between the west coast offense and the spread?
I have been reading a lot of sites and many people think it is night and day difference, but I don’t see it that way especially when I saw 3 and 4 wr’s sets out there in the spring game.
Thanks Tom T.
Good question, there are indeed more similarities than many think.
There are more differences than similarities however.
The biggest difference centers around overall philosophy.
Coach Rich Rod’s offense used the run to set up the pass, specifically the slot receiver when safeties got nosey.
Coach Borges’s offense uses the pass to set up the run. Both offenses use the ISO and power as base plays.
Coach RR’s offense used quarterbacks as feature back running specific plays.
Both offenses will use boots and waggles off the running game.
Coach Borges uses the tailback to run ISO and power.
Both offenses will use inside and outside zone, but will use different plays off of them.
Both offenses use zone blocking, Coach Borges will employ more man blocking than RR’s.
Both offenses will use single back, empty sets, and two back sets.
The new offense will have a different ratio of each set above.
Both offenses employ a shotgun set, Coach Borges will use the quarterback more under center than Coach Rod.
Some pure differences, Coach Borges offense will use the tight end and fullback more in one game than RR’s in entire season.
Coach Borges’ passing game will use more combination routes than RR’s.
RR’s offense used triple option a ton, we will be surprised if Coach Borges uses much triple at all.
